Product-market fit

In Arabic: ملاءمة المنتج للسوق

In short

The point where a product has found a market that really wants it: customers buy, come back and recommend it without hard selling.

What does it mean?

Product-market fit means your product solves a real problem for a clear group of customers, in a way that makes them want it and pay for it. It is not a feeling. It shows up in your numbers and in how customers behave.

How do you know you have it?

Common signs: customers buy again without reminders, new customers arrive because earlier ones recommended you, and demand runs ahead of what you can deliver. If the product disappeared, customers would ask for it and feel the loss.

The opposite signs: you need constant discounts or long persuasion for every sale, and most customers vanish after their first purchase. In that case you probably have not reached fit yet.

Why does it matter?

Before fit, the priority is changing the product or narrowing the customer group. After fit, spending on marketing and scaling starts to make sense. Scaling before fit multiplies losses instead of profits. This is why many founders watch repeat purchases and referrals closely before any decision to scale.

In the Syrian context

EntreStations places market fit in its Decisions track, and the programme page asks a question founders face every day: do people really want my product? One piece of advice shared at the programme's launch evening: before you build or spend, ask ten people from your target group about your idea.

According to the Entrepreneurship Observatory (October 2026), 80% of people running ventures put better marketing and sales first among their challenges, 78% reaching more customers, and 39% building customer trust.

Example

A handmade soap brand selling on Instagram notices that half of its monthly orders come from returning customers, and that many new buyers were sent by a friend. That is a strong sign of fit, so the brand starts planning to increase production.

Common questions

How do I know if my business has product-market fit?

Watch what customers do, not what they say: do they buy again, do new customers come through recommendations, and does demand grow without a big rise in marketing spend?

Can a product lose product-market fit?

Yes. Customer needs, prices and competition change, and a successful product can lose its fit if it does not keep up.

What is the difference between product-market fit and an MVP?

An MVP is a testing tool at the start. Product-market fit is a result you reach after testing and changes, once it is clear the market truly wants the product.
