What does it mean?

Deal flow is the term investors use for the ventures that come their way as possible investments. Good deal flow is not just a large number of pitches, but ventures that match the investor's interests, preferred sectors and the stage at which they invest.

How does it work?

Deals reach investors from many sources: personal contacts, referrals from other investors or from founders they have backed, Demo Days, incubators and accelerators, and investor networks.

Investors then move ventures through stages: a first screen, a meeting, a closer review and a decision. Out of dozens of ventures, they usually invest in very few.

Why does it matter?

An investor who sees more, and better matched, ventures can choose more carefully. For founders, the idea is useful too: the easiest way to reach an investor is to enter their deal flow through a source they trust, such as a referral from someone they know or an event they attend.

In the Syrian context

According to the Aram Lab and Riyada+ investment report 2025-2026, investors in Syria found most deals through WhatsApp groups, referrals and personal networks, because reliable market data is scarce. On the founders' side, 99% of project owners ask for networking, according to the Entrepreneurship Observatory (October 2026).

SEU invites angel investors to join its investor network so the right projects reach them. Founders, or team members, of six of the 14 companies in the report had taken part in activities of SEU and its partners.

Example

A Syrian investor living in Europe wants to back agritech. She joins an investor network and attends two Demo Days in Damascus; over six months, 20 ventures reach her, she meets five and invests in one.
